First Lady Lordina Mahama has reaffirmed her dedication to empowering women and girls across Africa, especially those impacted by climate change and armed conflict.
Speaking at a First Ladies' side event in New York titled “Building Resilience for Women and Girls in the Face of Climate Change and Conflict,” Mrs. Mahama highlighted the pivotal role women and girls play in developing African-led solutions to today's crises.
“I pledge to support this campaign that centers on African solutions and strength, rooted in its women and girls,” she said.
“In the face of climate and conflict challenges, their courage sustains families and communities. By investing in their strength, we build resilience for generations to come.”
She emphasized that women should not only be seen as victims but recognized as agents of change and pillars of their communities.
Mrs. Mahama also acknowledged that the discussions at the event shed light on how environmental degradation and conflict disproportionately affect vulnerable populations—especially women and girls. She praised the unified campaign pledge taken by First Ladies across the continent:
“Our joint commitment highlights a strong, collective effort to push for inclusive policies, mobilize resources, and implement programs that directly address these challenges.”
