A young woman has sparked widespread debate online after revealing why she prefers to date less conventionally attractive men over handsome ones.
In a video that has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), the lady candidly shared her personal preferences in relationships. Speaking in Pidgin English, she stated that she cannot be seen dating a man who is “100% fine,” explaining that she is more comfortable with men considered “ugly.”
According to her, walking down the street with a very attractive man draws too much attention from other women, which makes her feel uncomfortable. She expressed a strong dislike for scenarios where other women openly admire or compliment her partner’s looks.
“I don’t want a situation where I’m walking with my man and all the ladies are staring at him,” she said. “I want to be the one getting compliments, not him.”
She further emphasized that she expects her man to admire her beauty, while she, in turn, would appreciate his financial capabilities—not his appearance.
“I won’t be the one praising you for being handsome. You're supposed to hail me for my beauty. I’ll praise your money, not your looks,” she concluded.
Public Reactions
Her remarks stirred mixed reactions among social media users. Here are some notable responses:
-
Hamxher commented: “If you want peace of mind as a lady, don’t date a 100% fine boy. Otherwise, you’ll be sharing him with 10 other women.”
-
Ejanla wrote: “You might not care now, but wait until you have a baby that ends up looking like your 'ugly' boyfriend.”
-
Mayor added: “She just wants peace of mind—no competition, no stress. Makes sense.”
-
Bob Ekat remarked: “If you're insecure with a handsome man, you’ll be even more insecure with a rich one. Women chase wealth more than looks. Choose your struggle.”
-
Mr Agamugoro shared a personal story: “It’s actually harder for fine guys to find genuine love. Back in school, girls would reject me just because I was too attractive. One girl even said she couldn’t handle the competition.”
The video continues to trend as users weigh in on her unconventional but honest perspective on dating preferences.
