Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has publicly expressed his support for Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to become Ghana’s first female President.
Speaking during her working visit to the Ministry of Education, Mr. Iddrisu praised her leadership and affirmed his readiness to support her presidential ambition.
“It is my personal wish that you are elevated to become the first female President of our country,” he stated.
His endorsement comes amid growing momentum for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, with recent political polls showing her rising popularity within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to a Global InfoAnalytics poll from April 2025, the Vice President led the field with 26% of voter preference. Haruna Iddrisu followed with 19%, while Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson secured 12%. NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa each garnered 10%.
Interestingly, when Prof. Opoku-Agyemang's name was removed from the poll, Haruna Iddrisu took the lead with 27%, narrowly ahead of Asiedu Nketia at 26%, and Ato Forson at 22%. Julius Debrah and Okudzeto Ablakwa followed with 11% and 8%, respectively.
These figures reflect the growing influence of the Vice President and signal a potential reshaping of the political landscape, especially within the NDC, as the party prepares for its next presidential primary.
