A Nigerian truck driver has publicly accused officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) of extortion, claiming they demanded a ₦170,000 bribe after his vehicle became stuck on a poorly maintained road.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the visibly distressed driver narrates the incident while filming the scene. He explains that his 18-wheeler, which was loaded with used pallets, became immobilized due to the deplorable condition of the road. Rather than assisting him, he alleges that TRACE officers approached and insisted on a ₦170,000 payment before allowing him to proceed.
"I shouldn’t be doing this, but this is what it has gotten to. I have no other option," the driver says in the video, adding that one of the officers warned him not to record the encounter. Despite the warning, the driver vowed to seek justice and hold the officials accountable.
The footage has sparked widespread reactions online, with many social media users calling for a thorough investigation into the conduct of the TRACE personnel involved. Calls for government accountability and improved road infrastructure have also intensified in response to the video.
As of now, TRACE has not issued an official response to the allegations. Public pressure continues to mount, with citizens demanding transparency and action against corrupt practices by enforcement agencies.
