Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a former presidential staffer and a key member of the Bawumia Campaign Team, has fired back at investigative journalist and anti-galamsey advocate, Erastus Asare Donkor, following remarks suggesting Aboagye was late to join the fight against illegal mining.
In a recent social media post, Donkor commented:
"Let me officially welcome Dennis Miracles Aboagye to the galamsey fight. Today, I watched him explain the need to fight galamsey because babies are being born deformed. Heeerrrrh!"
However, Aboagye swiftly dismissed the notion that he is only now engaging in the galamsey discourse. In a strongly worded response, he accused Donkor of harboring a biased view towards members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who speak out on the issue.
"You don’t get to welcome any Ghanaian to speak up against galamsey—it’s our birthright," Aboagye asserted. "The video you referenced has been in circulation since October 8, 2022. You’re only now seeing it because you've consistently shown prejudice towards NPP voices in the galamsey conversation."
He also challenged Donkor’s perceived inconsistency, citing his past support for the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) stance on banning small-scale mining.
"You disagreed with me when I opposed the ban on small-scale mining and instead supported the NDC’s call for a ban, which they even included in their social contract. I suggest you focus some of your energy on holding them accountable for that promise. Consistency matters," he emphasized.
Aboagye concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the fight against illegal mining, stating:
"I have been more consistent and principled on galamsey than most. I won’t stop, nor do I need your welcome party to do what’s right."
