The Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has strongly criticized an incident involving two male teachers who engaged in a physical altercation on school premises in Pepease, reportedly over a female colleague.
Describing the incident as “completely unacceptable, unprofessional, and a disgrace to the teaching profession,” Hon. Anim issued a statement urging the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate the matter thoroughly and impose appropriate disciplinary measures.
“I have been informed of the unfortunate incident at a school in Pepease where two teachers engaged in a fight over a female colleague. This behavior is not only immature but also undermines the values and standards expected of educators,” he stated.
The MP emphasized that teachers are expected to model discipline, emotional restraint, and integrity—qualities that were evidently lacking in this situation.
“It is deeply troubling that two professionals allowed a personal disagreement to escalate into violence within a learning environment. This reflects a serious lapse in judgment and a lack of self-control,” Hon. Anim added.
He stressed that such conduct damages the reputation of the school, disrespects the teaching profession, and sets a poor example for students.
“This shameful incident tarnishes the image of the institution and diminishes the respect students and society are supposed to have for teachers,” he said.
Calling for swift action, Hon. Anim appealed to the GES to take the matter seriously and enforce consequences that reinforce professionalism in the education sector.
“I urge the Ghana Education Service to promptly investigate the matter and apply necessary sanctions to uphold discipline within our schools,” he said.
He also encouraged the school’s leadership to ensure students who witnessed the altercation receive psychological support to address any emotional distress.
“I call on the school administration to provide counseling and psychological assistance to affected students, prioritizing their mental and emotional well-being,” the MP stated.
In his concluding remarks, Hon. Anim underscored the need to maintain high standards within Ghana’s education system.
“Teachers must be role models—individuals who inspire confidence and trust. Our schools must remain safe and respectful environments conducive to learning,” he concluded.
