ATEGYA: Two Arrested in Connection with Murder of Former Dampong SHS Headmaster

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Eric Obeng Darko, the former Headmaster of Dampong Senior High School.

The suspects, identified as 38-year-old Mubarak Mohammed and 48-year-old Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah, were apprehended on June 9 and June 17, 2025, respectively. Both have appeared before district courts in Kodie and Suame and are currently in police custody.

According to investigators, the incident traces back to 2024. Prophetess Darkwah allegedly convinced Mr. Darko to give her money under the guise of helping him retrieve a hidden family treasure. She later visited his home in Bampenase, near Mamponteng, along with Mubarak Mohammed. There, they reportedly dug up 20 pieces of a yellowish material, claiming it was ancient gold that needed to be purified at her church.

However, Prophetess Darkwah allegedly avoided all further meetings with Mr. Darko concerning the so-called purification. Authorities believe she later plotted with Mohammed and three other accomplices—who are still at large—to abduct and murder Mr. Darko before he could confront her again.

The victim was reportedly taken to Aboabugya, where he tried to escape. During the attempted escape, he was allegedly struck and killed by a Honda Odyssey driven by Mohammed.

Police continue to search for the remaining suspects. The two individuals in custody are set to reappear in court on July 4, 2025.

A police spokesperson affirmed, “We are committed to securing justice for the victim and ensuring that all those involved are held accountable.”

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025. In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity. Additionally, Ofori-Atta seeks an interlocutory injunction to stop the OSP from issuing any further press releases or public statements that ...
