A tragic road accident at Natwibuw, located along the Winneba-Apam highway in Ghana’s Central Region, has claimed the lives of four people—three schoolchildren and a taxi driver.
The fatal incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025. The students, who attended Uncle Rich and St. Paul Basic Schools, were returning home from school when the taxi they were riding in was struck head-on by a Toyota RAV4.
Eyewitnesses stated that the RAV4, bearing registration number GN 5507-18, attempted a wrongful overtaking maneuver and collided with the taxi, registered CR 748-20.
The taxi driver died instantly from the impact, and emergency responders had to retrieve his body from the mangled vehicle. One of the students died at the scene, while two others later passed away while receiving treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, raising the death toll to four.
Two other students survived the crash and are currently undergoing medical care.
Although the Ghana Police Service has not yet released an official statement, investigations into the cause of the accident are expected to begin soon.
The incident has reignited public concern over the alarming rate of road traffic accidents in Ghana, particularly those caused by reckless overtaking and unsafe driving practices on major highways.
