Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, is set to extend its sustainable waste management expertise to Burkina Faso, following a high-level meeting between the Executive Chairman of Jospong Group, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, also included the Burkinabe Minister of Environment, Roger Baro, and Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana, Major Colonel David Kabré. This engagement marks a pivotal step toward implementing an integrated waste management initiative in Burkina Faso. The project will span the entire waste management value chain, including collection, recovery, recycling, and treatment.
This partnership stems from earlier bilateral discussions between Ghana and Burkina Faso, including an official visit by the President of Ghana to Burkina Faso on March 10. The initiative forms part of a broader South-South cooperation framework aimed at promoting sustainable development and generating employment opportunities.
Zoomlion, with over two decades of experience and operations in 24 other African countries, intends to replicate Ghana’s successful waste management models to address Burkina Faso’s environmental challenges.
Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Ouédraogo praised the initiative as a progressive step toward utilizing African expertise, particularly in fostering youth employment and improving public health. He reaffirmed his government’s support for investors committed to the nation’s development.
Dr. Siaw Agyepong commended President Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s vision for national development, especially in the areas of job creation and sustainable infrastructure. He also announced the forthcoming signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Environment in Burkina Faso, which will precede the commencement of infrastructure development.
As part of the agreement, the Jospong Group plans to train Burkinabe youth in Ghana, equipping them to operate and manage the new waste management facilities locally.
“We are not going to import Ghanaian workers into Burkina Faso,” Dr. Agyepong emphasized. “We will train young Burkinabe citizens to take charge of waste management in their country.”
This strategic expansion underscores Zoomlion's commitment to regional environmental sustainability and the empowerment of African youth through skills development and job creation.
