Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undergo a deep transformation as it looks ahead to the 2028 general elections. In a compelling open letter, he called for the party to adopt a forward-thinking mindset—welcoming new leadership, innovative ideas, and a culture of humility to reconnect with the Ghanaian public.
Highlighting the need for genuine renewal, Dr. Kennedy stressed that the NPP must live up to the “New” in its name. “We should lean on the ‘NEW’ in our name and look for new humility, new ideas, and new people to lead us,” he wrote.
Rather than focusing solely on identifying a single "unifying" presidential candidate, Dr. Kennedy urged the party to embrace change across the board—from the grassroots level to the national executive leadership. “Our party cannot just focus on the selection of one great unifying candidate—assuming he or she exists,” he noted. “Real transformation must occur across all levels of the party.”
Looking toward 2028, Dr. Kennedy described the next general election as a defining moment for Ghana’s democracy. He warned that voters will be more discerning, demanding clear signs of accountability, reform, and ethical leadership—not just from the NPP, but from all major political parties.
“2028 will be about ‘Democratic Accountability,’” he wrote. “It will judge the NDC on whether it has delivered on its promises of accountability and reform. And voters will punish it for continuing with business-as-usual governance.”
Ultimately, Dr. Kennedy’s message was a challenge to the NPP to rise above its recent struggles and embrace a vision of renewal—grounded in democratic values and powered by a new generation of leaders.
