Sunyani Traditional Council Suspends Queen Mother Over Unapproved Chieftaincy Enstoolment The Sunyani Traditional

Council has officially suspended the Queen Mother of Sunyani, Nana Akosua Asor Sika Dua Brayie, effective immediately. She is barred from performing any traditional duties or receiving honors linked to her title.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Old Sunyani Palace in Area One, following violent disturbances tied to a controversial chieftaincy installation.

Speaking to the media, the Acting President of the Council, Nana Kwaku Sabin, declared that Nana Brayie should no longer be recognized in any official capacity. “Any individual or group that invites or refers to her as the Queen Mother of Sunyani will face disciplinary action from the Traditional Council,” he cautioned.

The suspension stems from an unauthorized enstoolment conducted by Nana Brayie on Monday, June 16, 2025. She reportedly installed a 63-year-old U.S.-based Doctor of Physical Therapy, Dr. Osei Tutu, under the stool name Ofentemfrem Omenasono Dr. Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri III, without the Council’s approval.

This early-morning ceremony sparked violent clashes between Nana Brayie’s private security personnel and supporters of the current Paramount Chief, Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor III. A gunfight reportedly erupted at the Old Sunyanimanhene Palace, further escalating tensions surrounding the succession of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri.

In a separate statement, Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor III called for peace and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Sunyani. “All I seek for Sunyani is progress. I will not permit anyone to undermine the peace we have worked hard to sustain,” he said.

Nana Kwaku Sabin described the Queen Mother’s actions as unconstitutional and a direct violation of traditional customs. He emphasized that Nana Brayie lacked the legal or customary authority to install a chief on behalf of the Sunyani Traditional Area.

“The enstoolment carried out by Nana Akosua Asor Sika Brayie is illegitimate. The Council recognizes Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor III as the rightful Paramount Chief,” he stated.

The Council condemned the Queen Mother’s actions, labeling them a threat to the unity, peace, and cultural heritage of the Sunyani chieftaincy. They concluded by reaffirming their commitment to preserving customary processes and promoting harmony within the traditional area.

Ken Ofori-Atta Files Legal Action Against Special Prosecutor Over 'Wanted Person' Label

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025. In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity. Additionally, Ofori-Atta seeks an interlocutory injunction to stop the OSP from issuing any further press releases or public statements that ...
