British boxing rivals Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn are set to square off once again in a blockbuster rematch scheduled for September 20 in London. This fight comes after their dramatic first meeting in April at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Eubank Jr earned a unanimous decision win.
While the venue for the rematch has yet to be confirmed, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium remains a strong candidate. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn hinted that the iconic venue could once again host the bout, but also raised the possibility of Wembley Stadium to accommodate a larger crowd.
“Spurs is contracted – it’s a fantastic stadium and worked extremely well the first time,” Hearn told Ring magazine. “It was sold out, and this fight is even bigger. We could potentially look at Wembley to increase capacity.”
The first bout carried major historical significance, coming 35 years after their fathers—Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn—first clashed in the ring. Though no title was at stake, the April fight drew intense public interest, ending with all three judges scoring it 116-112 for Eubank Jr, who now boasts a 35-3 professional record.
Following news of the rematch, Benn posted on social media:
“Experience gained, lessons learned.”
The rivalry between Eubank and Benn has been marred by controversy. Their initial fight was scheduled for 2022 but was abruptly called off after Benn failed a drug test. Although he denied intentional doping, he was later cleared to return by anti-doping authorities in 2024.
Tensions resurfaced earlier this year at a fiery February press conference, where Eubank slapped Benn with an egg—an apparent dig at a report suggesting Benn’s failed test could have been caused by high egg consumption. The stunt cost Eubank a £100,000 fine.
That wasn’t the only penalty Eubank faced. Just before their April fight, he was fined £375,000 for missing weight. As a fighter who naturally competes two divisions above Benn, weight-cutting remains a key concern. Eubank, now 35, is also under scrutiny for reportedly using a sauna to shed weight, a method prohibited by the British Boxing Board of Control. He is expected to face a hearing in July.
One of the most poignant moments of the April bout came when Eubank Jr entered the ring alongside his father, Chris Eubank Sr, despite their well-documented estrangement in recent years. The moment served as a powerful callback to their legendary lineage—Eubank Sr defeated Benn’s father, Nigel Benn, in 1990 and fought him to a dramatic draw in 1993.
Now, as the sons prepare to write the next chapter of this storied rivalry, fans can expect another unforgettable night of British boxing this September.
