"Defeat Is Not Final" — Akomea Urges NPP to Back Bawumia for 2028 Comeback

Nana Akomea, a leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is rallying support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia despite the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections. Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, Akomea emphasized that electoral defeat should not be viewed as the end of Bawumia’s political journey.

"Defeat in politics is not permanent," Akomea stated. "Just look at our history — John Mahama lost an election but returned. Dr. Bawumia still has a strong path ahead of him, and 2028 offers a real opportunity."

Ghana's Political Comebacks

Akomea referenced Ghana’s Fourth Republic as evidence that political revival is possible. He noted a recurring pattern where previously defeated leaders have staged comebacks:

"Since 2000, we’ve seen Rawlings hand over to Kufuor — who had lost earlier. Kufuor was succeeded by Mills, then Mahama, and now Akufo-Addo. Defeat has never ruled out a return."

This, he argued, shows that perseverance and national service are more important than any single electoral result.

A Call for Unity and Strategy

Encouraging party members to remain united and focused, Akomea stressed that the 2024 election was a setback—not a final judgment on Bawumia or the NPP’s vision for Ghana.

“We must not allow this defeat to divide or discourage us,” he said. “Now is the time to regroup, reflect, and plan strategically for 2028.”

He called on supporters to maintain their faith in Bawumia’s leadership potential and to work together as the party rebuilds for the future.

Looking Ahead

With internal party discussions ongoing and national politics evolving, Akomea's remarks signal the start of an early push to position Dr. Bawumia as a credible contender in the next election cycle.

Ken Ofori-Atta Files Legal Action Against Special Prosecutor Over 'Wanted Person' Label

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025. In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity.
