Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, was arrested on Sunday, June 29, 2025, by national security operatives at his residence in Kumasi.
According to Paul Yandoh, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the officers arrived at Jumah’s home without prior notice. They reportedly displayed a warrant on a mobile phone but did not provide a physical copy. Jumah was not allowed to change clothes before being taken away in a pickup truck to the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
Yandoh confirmed to Asaase News that Jumah is currently in custody, awaiting directives from authorities in Accra.
At the time of reporting, three lawyers had arrived to represent Jumah, though no formal charges had been filed. Additionally, no government agency—including the police or national security—has officially acknowledged responsibility for the arrest.
The incident has sparked concerns about due process and the transparency of law enforcement procedures.
