The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the postponement of a scheduled meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health. The meeting, originally set for June 26, 2025, was aimed at advancing discussions on the implementation of key elements in the Association’s conditions of service.
In a letter dated June 25, the committee cited the unavailability of some key stakeholders as the reason for rescheduling. The new date has been set for July 10, 2025. GRNMA has warned that this delay could hinder progress on commitments already agreed upon.
Following an earlier round of talks, the Association had suspended a nationwide strike in a show of goodwill. However, at a press conference held on June 26, 2025, GRNMA emphasized its expectation that the government will fulfill four key provisions of the agreement by the end of July.
“We suspended our strike in good faith and anticipated the same level of commitment from the government. This postponement feels like a breach of that trust and may cause further setbacks,” the Association stated. “Still, we are willing to give the committee the benefit of the doubt and hope their ongoing discussions with the Ministries of Finance and Health lead to timely results.”
GRNMA has firmly stated that the July 2025 deadline is final. Failure to meet it could trigger renewed industrial action.
The Association’s leadership has made it clear: if the government fails to deliver on the agreed conditions within the specified timeframe, they may have no choice but to resume their strike.
