Defence Minister Warns Against Recruitment Scams Ahead of Officer Corps Enlistment

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has issued a strong advisory to prospective applicants of the upcoming Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) officer corps enlistment. In a public statement, he cautioned against falling victim to recruitment scams and warned that the military will not tolerate any form of bribery or corruption throughout the enlistment process.

In a Facebook post shared on June 28, Dr. Boamah urged the public to remain vigilant, emphasizing that no genuine enlistment opportunities require payment. “As the Ghana Armed Forces prepares for the upcoming officer corps enlistment, I want to remind you to: 1. Beware of scams and avoid paying bribes. 2. Carefully review the eligibility criteria before applying,” he wrote.

He further clarified that recruitment for non-officer ranks—commonly referred to as regular soldiers—had not yet commenced. Official updates regarding that process will be communicated in due time.

“Regarding soldier (non-officer) recruitment, rest assured that updates will be shared in due course. Stay informed and vigilant!” he added.

Dr. Boamah's remarks follow a recent press release from the Ghana Armed Forces, in which the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp warned the public about fraudulent schemes led by individuals impersonating senior military officers. These scammers are reportedly demanding payments from unsuspecting applicants with false promises of guaranteed enlistment.

The GAF reiterated that no recruitment exercise is currently underway for non-officer positions. However, the officer enlistment process, which began last year, is currently nearing completion.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to categorically state that there are no recruitment exercises ongoing for soldiers. However, enlistment for potential officer cadets which began last year is at its final stages,” the statement clarified.

The military also reminded the public that any individual or group requesting money in exchange for recruitment assistance is engaging in criminal activity and should be reported to the appropriate authorities.

The Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Armed Forces continue to encourage all applicants to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate and timely information.

Ken Ofori-Atta Files Legal Action Against Special Prosecutor Over 'Wanted Person' Label

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025. In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity. Additionally, Ofori-Atta seeks an interlocutory injunction to stop the OSP from issuing any further press releases or public statements that ...
