A deeply unsettling case has emerged in Ategya, where a young woman named Osaro Festus was found dead and buried in a shallow grave near the home of a man she had met online.
According to reports, Osaro connected with a man identified as Joshua on a social media platform earlier this year. On April 20, 2025, she left her family home accompanied by a female friend, telling her parents she was going to meet someone she had met through the internet. As a precaution, she shared Joshua’s photo with her friend before departing.
That was the last time her family heard from her.
When she failed to return and could not be reached, her family reported her missing. A search that lasted nearly two months followed, involving both the police and family members.
Investigators eventually traced her last known whereabouts to Joshua’s residence. During interrogation, Joshua claimed that Osaro died after a fall that occurred during an argument between them. However, he was unable to offer a satisfactory reason for not reporting the incident or contacting her family.
He later led authorities to a nearby shallow grave where Osaro's body had been buried.
This tragic development has sparked renewed public concern over the risks associated with online dating and highlighted the importance of digital safety—particularly for young people.
Joshua is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
