The staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA), represented by the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU), have officially suspended their indefinite strike. This move paves the way for the full resumption of national identification and registration services across Ghana starting Monday, June 30, 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, the authority confirmed that the strike was called off after successful negotiations with key government stakeholders. These included the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Finance, and PSWU leadership.
“The NIA acknowledges and appreciates the union's goodwill during discussions and reassures staff that their concerns remain a top priority and will continue to receive prompt attention,” the statement read.
The strike had significantly disrupted the provision of national ID services. The NIA apologized for the inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their patience during the period of industrial action.
“All NIA offices and registration centres nationwide will fully reopen and resume operations on Monday, June 30, 2025,” the authority announced, urging citizens to take advantage of the restored services.
The NIA reiterated its commitment to delivering “quality, efficient, and reliable identification services” to all Ghanaians in fulfillment of its national mandate.
