CHALICE-Nandom, a faith-based development organization, has donated 60 dual desks and sets of core textbooks in Mathematics, English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies to the Gengenkpe Junior High School in the Nandom Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The donation fulfills a promise made by the organization in April 2025, following a violent rainstorm that destroyed the school’s roof and damaged essential teaching and learning materials.
Commitment to Education
Presenting the items on behalf of CHALICE, Mr. Charles Domekyilleh, the organization’s Director, reaffirmed its commitment to improving education in underserved communities.
“Education remains one of the most effective tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. By providing these desks and textbooks, we are investing in the future of the children of Gengenkpe,” Mr. Domekyilleh stated.
He added that CHALICE’s continuous partnership with local communities complements government efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments.
“We were deeply moved by the damage caused by the storm earlier this year. This gesture is our way of restoring hope to both teachers and learners,” he emphasized.
Appreciation from Local Authorities
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anthony Ziniel, who attended the ceremony, commended CHALICE for its timely intervention. He recalled that the Municipal Assembly had already renovated and re-roofed the school to ensure that teaching and learning could continue smoothly.
“The Assembly will continue to prioritize education because our children deserve the best learning environment,” Hon. Ziniel assured.
Representing the Municipal Director of Education, the Human Resource Manager, Mr. Paul Kpaatigh, urged both teachers and students to make the best use of the resources provided.
“Teachers must remain dedicated to their duties, and students must take their studies seriously. Only through discipline and hard work can true success be achieved,” he advised.
Community Gratitude and Appeal
The event, held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, brought together chiefs from Bezum, Tankyara, and Gengenkpe, along with community leaders, parents, and teachers, all of whom expressed deep appreciation to CHALICE for its continuous support.
The Head Teacher, Mr. Ambrose Deberu, thanked CHALICE for the donation on behalf of the school and appealed to the Municipal Education Directorate to post additional teachers to the school.
“We currently have only three teachers, including myself. The children are eager to learn, but we are overstretched. We appeal for more staff to ease the workload and enhance learning outcomes,” he said.
The donation is expected to significantly improve teaching and learning conditions at the school, motivating both teachers and students to achieve better academic results.
