Doris Boaduwaa’s Hat-Trick Seals Black Queens’ 7–0 Aggregate Triumph Over Egypt to Qualify for 2026 WAFCON
The Black Queens of Ghana have officially booked their place at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after completing a dominant 7–0 aggregate victory over Egypt in their final qualifying round.
Following a convincing 3–0 first-leg win in Ismailia, Ghana entered the return fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium with confidence. The first encounter saw Doris Boaduwaa net a brilliant hat-trick and Comfort Yeboah register her first senior international goal, giving the Queens a commanding advantage ahead of the home leg.
However, preparations for the decisive match were briefly disrupted by reports of a player strike over unpaid bonuses, which led to the cancellation of two training sessions. The issue was resolved after the intervention of Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, allowing the team to resume training.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren made several changes to his starting lineup for the second leg, but despite Ghana’s dominance, the first half ended goalless. The breakthrough came shortly after the restart when Boaduwaa opened the scoring in the 52nd minute and doubled the lead just three minutes later.
Comfort Yeboah extended Ghana’s advantage in the 57th minute with her second career goal for the national team. In stoppage time, Boaduwaa completed her hat-trick to seal a comprehensive 4–0 home win, confirming Ghana’s back-to-back qualification for the continental showpiece.
The Black Queens will now await the group stage draw for the 2026 WAFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco. A top-four finish at the tournament would also secure Ghana a coveted spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
