An intelligence-led operation conducted by the Bono Regional Police Intelligence Directorate has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspected robbery kingpin, Evans Ameyaw, at Buoko near Chiraa in the Wenchi Municipality.
According to the police, the operation, which took place on October 23, 2025, was based on credible intelligence regarding a criminal network engaged in the sale of stolen motorcycles and tricycles within the area.
During the operation, officers retrieved four motorbikes, two tricycles, and seven compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspect’s residence.
Police sources revealed that Ameyaw admitted during interrogation to collaborating with other individuals in executing the thefts. The exhibits have since been secured as evidence.
In a statement to the media, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, confirmed the arrest and indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
“Evans Ameyaw is currently in police custody assisting investigators in tracing the rightful owners of the stolen vehicles,” Chief Inspector Akeelah said, adding that the suspect will be prosecuted upon the completion of investigations.
The police have urged the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect’s accomplices or help identify the stolen property.
