Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticized former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a weak and unprincipled leader due to his constant desire to please everyone.
According to Kpebu, this tendency has made Dr. Bawumia ineffective in making firm decisions, particularly when faced with issues of accountability and corruption. He cited events at the Northern Development Authority (NDA) as an example, where he claimed Dr. Bawumia failed to act on reports of financial irregularities.
“People said it was too harsh when I said Bawumia would never be president of Ghana. I was simply speaking the truth,” Kpebu stated. “It is clear that with the level of economic mismanagement he oversaw, Bawumia cannot stand on his own. He is not a man of principle.”
He continued, “Let me give you an example—the NDA. That was when I realized Bawumia is spineless. He comes from the North, and when Professor Anamzoya wrote to inform him that people were embezzling funds from the NDA, he did nothing. Fortunately, Anamzoya met me, and I took the matter to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). Today, four individuals are facing trial.”
Kpebu maintained that such inaction on matters of public interest demonstrates a lack of leadership strength and accountability.
