The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has expressed deep disappointment over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the situation as both painful and disheartening.
For the first time in more than two decades, the Black Stars will miss Africa’s premier football competition after finishing bottom of their qualifying group with only three points.
In an interview with Sporty FM, Mr. Boamah said it would be emotionally difficult to watch the tournament without Ghana’s participation.
“To watch AFCON without hearing Ghana’s national anthem, while other countries’ anthems play, is painful,” he lamented. “AFCON without Ghana is like a car without an engine.”
He attributed the team’s failure to a lack of preparation and seriousness, suggesting that poor planning played a major role in the disappointing campaign.
“We were ill-prepared and not serious at the time,” he added.
Despite his frustration, the MP encouraged Ghanaians to treat the setback as an opportunity for renewal and rebuilding of the national team.
“Maybe it’s a good thing for us to use this period to assess our players in Europe, Africa, and Asia, and rebuild a strong and attractive national team,” he said.
Although the AFCON miss has been a major blow to Ghanaian football fans, the Black Stars have managed to restore some pride by securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
