The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tolon and First Deputy Minority Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has formally requested President John Dramani Mahama to provide an update on the investigation into the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight senior government officials and military officers.
In a letter dated October 27, 2025, Alhaji Iddrisu cited Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 18 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), which guarantee citizens access to information of public interest.
The tragic crash resulted in the deaths of:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence
- Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman
- Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala
- Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo
On August 25, 2025, the government announced the establishment of a Committee of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, pledging to release its findings within 30 days. However, more than two months later, no official report or update has been made public.
Alhaji Iddrisu described the delay as “deeply concerning,” stressing that transparency is essential given the national significance of the tragedy.
“In light of the time that has passed and the significant public interest in this matter, I respectfully request a copy of the investigative report or any available update,” he wrote. “The public deserves to know what led to this devastating loss of distinguished individuals who served their country faithfully.”
He further urged the government to issue an interim report if the final findings are not yet ready, to demonstrate accountability and reassure citizens of the administration’s commitment to transparency.
“This would not only reflect good governance but also strengthen public confidence in the integrity of the investigative process,” the MP emphasized.
Concluding his letter, Alhaji Iddrisu expressed optimism that the presidency would respond promptly, in accordance with legal timelines, noting that the nation continues to mourn and seek clarity on the causes of the fatal crash.
