Members of the Bosomtwe District Assembly in the Ashanti Region have rejected the Assembly’s proposed 2026 budget, citing what they describe as a lack of transparency and fairness in the allocation of resources.
At a meeting held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, 30 out of 34 elected Assembly Members voted against the budget, arguing that it was not equitably designed to address the needs of all communities within the district.
According to the dissenting members, the budget included an allocation of GH¢80,000 for a single borehole project—an amount they deemed excessive and unjustifiable. They further expressed concern that the budget disproportionately favored a few communities while neglecting the majority.
“The district has 67 communities spread across 37 electoral areas, yet the budget focuses on only a few,” the Assembly Members noted.
The members also claimed that they were excluded from the decision-making process leading to the preparation of the final budget document. They alleged that even the Presiding Member was left out of key deliberations.
“Our main concern is that the Assembly failed to consult us during the preparation of the final budget statement, contrary to the usual practice,” they added.
The protesting members have appealed to the Ashanti Regional Minister to intervene and ensure that the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Hamidu Abdullah, addresses their grievances. They insist that the current budget fails to reflect the pressing development needs of many communities in the district.
