The Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that all outstanding bonuses owed to Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, have been fully paid.
The confirmation follows reports that the team had threatened to boycott their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt due to unpaid entitlements.
However, after a meeting between the players, the Sports Minister, and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, the team agreed to honour the fixture upon receiving assurances that the arrears would be settled.
Speaking to Woezor TV after Ghana’s emphatic win in Accra, Mr. Adams — who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency — confirmed that the players had received their payments.
“The Black Queens’ bonuses have been paid,” he stated. “The players were given their cheques after the game against Egypt in Accra, and the officials who were due payments have also been settled.”
The Black Queens have now booked their place in the 2026 WAFCON, following a dominant 7–0 aggregate victory over Egypt. Ghana secured a 3–0 win in the first leg in Ismailia and completed the tie with a 4–0 triumph in the return fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With qualification secured, the team will now await the group stage draw for the 2026 tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco. A semifinal finish at the competition would automatically earn Ghana a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
