The Ewe Loyalty Foundation (ELF), a youth-led, community-based non-profit organization, has celebrated its fifth anniversary with a renewed commitment to empowering vulnerable groups and strengthening unity among Ewe-speaking communities in Ghana and abroad.
The milestone event, held in Sogakofe, also marked the Foundation’s Annual General Meeting and the official launch of its fifth-anniversary activities.
From Social Media to Community Impact
In his address, the Founder and President, Mr. Julius Kukubor, reflected on the Foundation’s journey, which began modestly on March 4, 2021, as a Facebook group co-created with Ms. Joyce Esinam Fordjour and Ms. Sandra Makafui Atigah. Within a year, the online group grew to over 1,000 members, inspiring the creation of a WhatsApp platform in 2022 to coordinate charitable initiatives and mobilize support for the underprivileged in Ewe communities.
Mr. Kukubor noted that although the Foundation initially focused on external community support, it later expanded its mission to include a member welfare scheme designed to assist members in times of need and personal milestones.
The Ewe Loyalty Foundation was officially registered with the Registrar-General’s Department in Accra in October 2023 and currently boasts 220 active members across various regions.
Transforming Lives Through Service
Outlining the organization’s objectives, Mr. Kukubor reaffirmed ELF’s dedication to supporting orphans, prisoners, hospitals, and deprived schools through donations, visitations, and volunteer initiatives.
Speaking to the media, the Foundation’s General Secretary, Mr. Setor Eric Ekow Shine, highlighted some of the group’s recent achievements. These include donations to victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage in Battor and Mepe, as well as an outreach program at In My Father’s House Orphanage in Abor, where members presented books, stationery, and food supplies.
“One of our core motivations is to support orphans,” Mr. Shine said. “We want to be more than donors — we want to be family to them, offering encouragement and hope alongside material support.”
Overcoming Challenges and Looking Ahead
Mr. Shine acknowledged that the Foundation faces financial challenges due to its reliance on member contributions. However, he revealed plans to invest in sustainable ventures to ensure consistent funding for its humanitarian projects.
“As we mark our fifth anniversary, we are determined to expand our reach, especially in supporting orphans and schoolchildren who lack learning materials and proper uniforms,” he stated.
He further encouraged Ewe-speaking individuals, organizations, and NGOs to partner with the Foundation in advancing development efforts.
“If we come together as Ewes, we can achieve great things for our communities,” he emphasized.
The anniversary celebration concluded with a renewed call for unity, volunteerism, and sustained community engagement, as the Foundation sets its sights on an even more impactful future.
