Napoli moved three points clear at the top of Serie A after securing a narrow 1–0 victory over Lecce on Sunday.
The decisive goal came in the 69th minute when David Neres delivered a precise free-kick into the penalty area, allowing Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa to head home from close range.
Lecce had an opportunity to take the lead earlier in the match when they were awarded a penalty in the 57th minute. However, Francesco Camarda’s effort from the spot was superbly saved by Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić, who has now stopped five of the last nine penalties he has faced in Serie A.
The win lifts Antonio Conte’s Napoli three points ahead of second-placed Roma, although they have played one game more.
The fixture also marked Napoli’s first outing since midfielder Kevin De Bruyne suffered a serious thigh injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period.
Napoli will look to maintain their momentum when they host Como in their next Serie A encounter on Saturday at 17:00 GMT.
