England forward Michelle Agyemang has confirmed that she has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and will miss the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old — a key figure in England’s Euro 2025 championship-winning squad — sustained the injury in a non-contact incident during the Lionesses’ 3–0 victory over Australia. Agyemang was stretchered off the pitch just 13 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute, with Chloe Kelly taking her place.
“I’m disappointed that the results show a torn ACL,” Agyemang wrote on Instagram. “I’m so grateful for all the kind words and support from everyone. Recovery starts now — I’ll be back stronger than before.”
Currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion from Arsenal, Agyemang had featured prominently for both clubs this season, starting in five of Brighton’s six Women’s Super League (WSL) fixtures.
Brighton confirmed in a statement that they will collaborate closely with Arsenal, the Football Association (FA), and England’s medical team to support Agyemang’s rehabilitation process.
“Everyone at Albion sends their full support to Michelle as she begins her recovery. Her wellbeing remains our top priority,” the club said.
Agyemang made a remarkable impact at Euro 2025, scoring crucial goals off the bench in England’s quarter-final win over Sweden and semi-final triumph against Italy. Her performances earned her a nomination for the prestigious Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world’s best under-21 women’s player.
Despite this setback, the young striker remains optimistic about her return to full fitness and has vowed to come back stronger.
