Tension has escalated in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region after the residence of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Binduri, Mr. Mahmoud Issifu, was set ablaze by unknown assailants late Sunday night, October 26, 2025.
Though no casualties were recorded, the three-bedroom residence was completely destroyed, with several valuable items lost in the fire. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but police have not ruled out the possibility of arson.
Three Killed in Separate Attack at Sakpari
In a separate and equally disturbing incident that same night, gunmen attacked a residence in Sakpari, another community within the district, leaving three people dead—including two children—and one person critically injured.
The victims were relatives of Mr. George Bukari, General Manager of Max Empire Radio and TV. According to eyewitness accounts, two armed men stormed the family home and opened fire without provocation. The attack claimed the lives of a man believed to be in his 60s and two children, while Mr. Bukari sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby health facility.
An eyewitness reported that the assault occurred as Mr. Bukari was preparing to bathe his child and that of his uncle. He had stepped out briefly to fetch his sandals when the gunmen struck. The assailants allegedly shot the victims before killing a cow behind which Mr. Bukari had attempted to take cover.
Police Launch Investigation
The motive for the two incidents remains unclear. However, security forces have begun investigations to determine whether the attacks were coordinated.
Mr. Salam Atiiga, a respected opinion leader in Binduri, strongly condemned the violence and appealed for calm, urging security agencies to act swiftly to restore peace and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Mr. Martin Ariku, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Binduri, confirmed that the District Security Council (DISEC) has initiated a probe into both attacks to establish any links and to uncover the circumstances behind the violence.
