Chief of Defence Staff Pledges Support to Military Personnel

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the operational efficiency and welfare of troops serving within the Northern Sector Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

He made the pledge during a five-day working tour of military units and installations in the Northern Sector, following his assumption of office. The tour allowed him to inspect key facilities, ongoing projects, and logistics operations, as well as to engage directly with personnel on the ground.

Commitment to Operational Excellence

Lieutenant General Agyapong assured officers and soldiers of his administration’s dedication to resource provision and infrastructural support aimed at boosting operational readiness and mission success.

He emphasized that his leadership remains focused on enhancing discipline, efficiency, and teamwork across all commands of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“Our mission is to ensure that every soldier has the tools, environment, and motivation to perform their duties effectively,” he stated.

During the visit, the CDS received detailed briefings on the operational, administrative, and logistical status of the various units and commended personnel for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication despite logistical and resource challenges.

Enhancing Welfare and Morale

Lieutenant General Agyapong reiterated his commitment to improving the living and working conditions of troops and their families, assuring them that several welfare and infrastructure projects were underway to uplift the standard of military life.

He also encouraged the troops not to be demoralised by the recent reduction in Ghana’s participation in United Nations Peace Support Operations, stressing that the GAF remains a vital pillar of both national and international peace efforts.

“Even as our deployment numbers change, our focus on excellence and service to the nation must remain unwavering,” he urged.

The CDS called on all ranks to continue working together toward a common goal — strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces and contributing meaningfully to the nation’s security and development.
