Black Queens Coach Kim Björkegren Admits Lack of Training Affected Team Despite 4–0 Victory Over Egypt
Ghana’s Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, has admitted that his side was affected by a lack of training sessions ahead of their emphatic 4–0 victory over Egypt in the second leg of their Olympic Games qualifier in Accra.
The Queens were unable to train for two days before the crucial fixture due to unpaid bonuses, a situation that disrupted their preparation.
Despite the setback, Ghana delivered a commanding performance at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 28, completing a 7–0 aggregate win following their 3–0 triumph in the first leg played in Ismailia, Egypt.
Speaking after the match, the Swedish coach acknowledged that the team’s rhythm suffered as a result of the interruption in their training schedule.
“If you haven’t done anything for two or three days, of course, it affects you,” Björkegren said. “It would be a lie to say otherwise, and the girls know it as well. But in the second half, it felt like we had warmed up during the first 45 minutes. We pushed forward and improved our performance after halftime — that’s exactly what we discussed, and they executed it perfectly.”
The Black Queens’ comprehensive victory ensures their smooth progression in the qualifiers, but Björkegren’s comments highlight the importance of consistent preparation and the need to resolve administrative issues that could hinder the team’s momentum.
