The Western North Regional Peace Council (WNRPC) has organized a peace education and sensitization program for more than 200 students of J.K. Ahwoi Junior High School, focusing on the importance of peacebuilding, respect for diversity, and non-violence in schools.
The event formed part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and tolerance among young people in the region.
Students Urged to Be Peace Ambassadors
Addressing the students, the Acting Executive Secretary of the WNRPC, Mrs. Elizabeth Boduwah, encouraged them to embrace diversity and take responsibility for nurturing peaceful environments in their schools and communities.
“Peace grows stronger when everyone feels included and treated fairly,” Mrs. Boduwah said. “Each of you has a role to play in building a culture of understanding, dialogue, and respect for differences.”
She emphasized that young people are critical in shaping the future of peaceful communities and must be equipped with the right values and skills to resolve conflicts amicably.
Promoting Tolerance and Conflict Prevention
The Assistant Administrative Manager, Mr. Samuel Zaukuu, also highlighted the mandate of the National Peace Council, explaining its role in promoting harmony, mediating community disputes, and preventing violence—especially during elections.
He urged the students to act as peace ambassadors among their peers, choosing dialogue over confrontation whenever disagreements arise.
Building Peace Through Education
The peace education session provided an interactive platform for students to learn about tolerance, inclusion, and the dangers of violence, while encouraging them to champion unity both in and out of school.
The initiative is part of the Peace Council’s broader mission to instill peace education and civic responsibility in the next generation, fostering a society grounded in mutual respect and cooperation.
