Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Salifu Ibrahim is reportedly on the verge of switching his international allegiance from Ghana to Benin.
According to close sources, the talented playmaker—who qualifies through his Beninese heritage—has held advanced discussions with the Benin Football Federation and has expressed his willingness to represent the Squirrels at senior level.
Salifu enjoyed an impressive spell with Accra Hearts of Oak between 2021 and 2024 after joining from Techiman Eleven Wonders. During his time with the Phobians, he played a pivotal role in their Ghana Premier League title victory.
The 23-year-old later moved abroad, where he contributed significantly to FC Drita’s league triumph in Kosovo. His consistent performances have since attracted the attention of Benin’s head coach, Gernot Rohr, who is reportedly keen to include him in the squad for the next international window.
Benin, who narrowly missed out on a historic World Cup qualification, have already secured a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). They are drawn in Group D alongside DR Congo, Senegal, and Botswana.
If the switch is finalized, Salifu Ibrahim will become one of several Ghana-born players to represent Benin at international level, further strengthening their squad ahead of AFCON preparations.
