The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlarbi, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to modernising Ghana’s security architecture through innovation, capacity building, and the adoption of cutting-edge technology to enhance national safety and resilience.
Delivering the keynote address at the 2025 Ghana Security and Safety Conference and Expo held at the University of Ghana, Mr. Terlarbi called on security stakeholders to embrace innovation and collaboration in addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
Innovation as the Backbone of Modern Security
Speaking on the theme “Innovating for Safety: Strengthening National Preparedness Against Emerging Threats,” the Deputy Minister underscored the need for a unified and proactive national response to contemporary threats, including cybercrime, climate-induced disasters, public health crises, and transnational terrorism.
“We must invest in innovation, strengthen partnerships, and demonstrate through our actions that Ghana remains a secure, stable, and forward-looking nation,” Mr. Terlarbi urged.
He added that technology presents unprecedented opportunities to enhance Ghana’s security and emergency response systems, citing examples such as drones, advanced surveillance systems, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity frameworks.
Collaboration for a Safer Future
The conference brought together public and private sector leaders, innovators, academics, and security experts to discuss practical strategies for building resilience and improving coordination across Ghana’s security landscape.
Mr. Terlarbi commended the organisers for providing a platform that encourages cross-sector collaboration and knowledge sharing, noting that the Ministry will continue to support initiatives that equip security agencies with modern tools and training to effectively respond to emerging threats.
He concluded by stressing that ensuring national security is a shared responsibility, requiring active participation from government, private sector actors, and the citizenry.
