A Nigerian businesswoman has made a desperate plea for public assistance after allegedly falling victim to a fraudulent scheme that cost her a total of ₦40 million — ₦34 million of which was borrowed from a bank.
In a video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the distraught woman recounted how she entered into a business agreement with a man in Warri, who promised to supply her goods. As part of their deal, she initially transferred ₦10 million to him and later made additional payments totaling ₦40 million, covering supposed costs for boats, security, and logistics.
Despite fulfilling all financial commitments, the man reportedly failed to deliver the promised goods and subsequently became unreachable. The woman stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun investigating her due to the unpaid bank loan, forcing her into hiding.
“The bank gave me ₦34 million, and I added ₦6 million from my savings,” she explained. “I even have court documents we both signed. But after I sent all the money, he disappeared. The EFCC has since visited my home, turned everything upside down, and now I’m on the run.”
She further alleged that the suspect's wife, who is a police officer, has issued threats to silence her and prevent her from pursuing justice.
Her story has since gone viral, sparking widespread reactions online. Some social media users criticized her decision-making, while others urged her to seek help from influential figures known for advocating justice.
Selected Reactions from Social Media:
- @grind_charts: “Borrowing what you can’t afford to lose is already a trap. ₦40M lost means two things: greed or ignorance. In both cases, the banks don’t cry with you — they collect.”
- @NigerianCos: “Contact VDM with your evidence. We’ll recover your money within a week.”
- @Deepphlamez: “You go need evidence o… 40 million no be smallz.”
- @Zicky001_: “Thank God VeryDarkMan is exposing corruption in the EFCC and police.”
The woman is now appealing to the public and relevant authorities for help in retrieving her funds and clearing her name.
