Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, has called on the party's leadership to fast-track the selection of its next presidential candidate, proposing December 2025 as the ideal timeline.
Speaking during an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Agyepong emphasized the importance of early selection to give the party ample time to prepare effectively for the 2028 general elections.
“I think we should do it by December this year [2025]. It should be done as quickly as possible,” he stated.
His remarks come as the party continues to regroup and strategize in the aftermath of its recent electoral defeat. For Agyepong, choosing a flagbearer early is not solely a matter of timing, but also a strategic move to foster internal unity and strengthen grassroots structures.
“We would have expanded the base first. We need to build what I’m calling the constituency caucuses. We have executives in place; their mandate hasn’t expired,” he noted.
Agyepong believes that with the foundation laid and a candidate in place, the NPP will be better positioned to consolidate support across all levels and project a united front ahead of the next election cycle.
“Once we elect a flagbearer, all members have to support the candidate,” he stressed.
