President John Dramani Mahama has nominated seven distinguished Justices of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court of Ghana.
The nominations were made in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which authorizes the President to nominate individuals to the Supreme Court, based on the advice of the Judicial Council and subject to parliamentary approval.
The nominees are:
- Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
- Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
- Justice Senyo Dzamefe
- Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
- Justice Philip Bright Mensah
- Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
- Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
In a formal communication dated April 29, 2025, and signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the presidency underscored the urgency of the appointments. The letter, addressed to Acting Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, called for swift consideration of the nominations.
“I trust that the Council will expedite action on their considerations,” President Mahama emphasized, adding, “Attached are their Curricula Vitae. Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.”
The correspondence was also copied to the Vice President and the Chief of Staff, reflecting the administration’s commitment to strengthening the judicial system through timely appointments.
