Davido Reveals How Nigerian Authorities Searched for Him After He Secretly Pursued Music

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about a defining chapter in his life—one that involved defying his wealthy background to chase a dream in music.

In a recent appearance on the American podcast Bagfuel Brigade, the Nigerian artist recounted how, as a teenager, he secretly built a music studio in his father's mansion and eventually fled the country in pursuit of his passion. His actions led to a nationwide search ordered by his billionaire father, Dr. Deji Adeleke, involving multiple Nigerian security agencies.

“I was living alone with my dad in a 16-bedroom mansion,” Davido recalled. “All my siblings were abroad, and my mom had passed. I built a full recording studio in the house without my dad knowing. That’s where I spent most of my time making music—and smoking.”

As his passion grew stronger, the then-teenager found it increasingly difficult to keep his musical ambitions a secret. Davido eventually left Nigeria for London, where he stayed with a producer friend for six months to hone his craft.

Back in Nigeria, his sudden disappearance prompted serious concern. His father launched an intensive manhunt involving the army, immigration officers, police, and other security agencies.

“Every security agency in Nigeria was looking for Dr. Deji Adeleke’s son,” he said.

Davido’s escape came to an end at the airport when he returned to Nigeria. He hadn’t planned to go home but was instead headed to a friend’s place. Upon arrival, however, an army officer recognized him and escorted him outside, where he was met by uniformed officers—and his father.

“To my surprise, my dad didn’t scold me. He hugged me. He was just happy to see me again,” Davido shared.

This heartfelt encounter marked a turning point in Davido’s life and career. What began as a teenage rebellion ultimately paved the way for him to become one of Africa’s biggest music stars.

Ken Ofori-Atta Files Legal Action Against Special Prosecutor Over 'Wanted Person' Label

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has taken legal action against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking an injunction to prevent the agency from continuing to label him as a “wanted person” or “fugitive from justice.” This legal move comes after Ofori-Atta's image and personal details were publicly displayed on the OSP's official social media pages, despite earlier assurances made in a letter dated February 18, 2025. In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity. Additionally, Ofori-Atta seeks an interlocutory injunction to stop the OSP from issuing any further press releases or public statements that ...
