Renowned Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has opened up about a surprising and deeply personal rumor he encountered online that left him stunned.
In a candid interview with Nigerian chef Ify, Arukwe revealed that the most shocking rumor he has ever heard about himself was the claim that he is gay—a narrative he firmly denies.
"That I was gay. That shocked me to my bones," the actor shared. "But I was also a bit amused, because they say once people start making up stories like that, it means you’ve made it. So in a way, I took it as a compliment."
Despite the speculation, Arukwe emphasized that while he is not gay, he maintains close relationships with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
"I have a lot of gay friends, and I love them dearly. They are my people—both male and female. I have nothing against anyone’s sexuality, but I won’t pretend to be something I’m not," he explained.
When asked how he identified his friends' sexual orientation, Arukwe responded casually, "I just know. They’re my guys. I could be talking to a girl and they’re off doing their own thing—you get it? We’re close like that."
He also added, "If I were gay, I’d own it fully and unapologetically. I’d be one of the hottest out there. But I’m not, and the most surprising part was the person people claimed was my boyfriend."
Uzor Arukwe’s honesty and poise in handling the rumor demonstrate his confidence and deep respect for individuality, as well as his commitment to living authentically.
