A longtime supporter of Ghana’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has publicly announced his decision to withdraw from active politics, citing years of personal sacrifice and what he describes as neglect by party leadership after the 2024 general elections.
The supporter, identified as Ex-Doe, a commercial driver based at Madina Zongo Junction, broke down in tears in a video shared on social media on Thursday, December 25, 2025—his 50th birthday. In the emotional recording, he lamented the lack of recognition and support following the NDC’s return to power.
Ex-Doe alleged that despite his unwavering loyalty to the party, particularly to the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, he has been sidelined since the elections. According to him, his repeated attempts to reach party leaders have gone unanswered.
He claimed that between 2017 and 2024, he invested heavily in the party’s campaign efforts, selling two of his taxis and using personal funds to purchase fuel, print banners, stickers, and other campaign materials. He said these contributions were made in the hope that he would benefit when the party regained power.
“I used my own money to buy fuel and campaign materials from 2020 to 2024 for Lawyer Sosu and for Mahama,” he said. “After the victory, nobody calls me. No one checks on me.”
Visibly distressed, Ex-Doe announced that he had reached the end of his political involvement.
“I am 50 years old today. I sold two of my taxis for politics, and I got nothing from it. From today, I, Ex-Doe of Madina Zongo Junction, quit politics,” he stated.
The video has since gone viral, sparking mixed reactions on social media. While some commentators argued that politics should not be driven by personal expectations of reward, others sympathised with his frustrations and described his experience as reflective of broader challenges faced by grassroots supporters.
Meanwhile, a presidential staffer at Jubilee House, Beatrice Annangfio, has recently appealed to NDC grassroots supporters to remain patient regarding appointments and employment opportunities. She assured supporters that the government’s four-year mandate provides room for gradual inclusion and urged calm amid growing pressure for immediate recognition.
Ex-Doe’s public withdrawal has reignited discussions about the treatment of grassroots supporters in Ghanaian politics and the expectations that often accompany political loyalty.
