A man who shot a dangerous gun salute in honor of Afrobeat star Asake in Accra has been arrested following the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The incident, which drew significant attention after it was captured on video, prompted swift police action due to safety concerns surrounding celebratory gunfire in public spaces. The man fired multiple shots into the air, an act that initially sparked excitement among those present, including Asake and his entourage.
According to reports from Graphic Online, the suspect, who became viral for his actions, was arrested and detained by the police. The gunfire was filmed and shared on social media, showing the man firing an automatic weapon identified as a DERYA MK-12, with the number 22-GHA 1162. In the video, the suspect admitted to the illegality of his actions but requested leniency, explaining that he was firing the weapon as a gesture of admiration for Asake. He proceeded to fire 10 shots into the air, prompting cheers from the musician and his friends.
Asake was in Ghana for the *AfroFuture Culture and Music Festival*, where he performed at the El Wak Sports Stadium. His high-energy performance captivated the audience, who sang and danced along to his popular hits, making the event one of the standout moments of the festival. Day 2 of *AfroFuture* saw performances from other international artists like Rema, KiDi, and Skyla Tylaa.
The police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but the arrest was made in response to public safety concerns about the risks associated with such celebratory gunfire. The IGP's decision to take action underscores the importance of ensuring safety during large gatherings, particularly when firearms are involved.
