A large-scale police operation targeting illicit drug activity and organised crime in the East Legon area has resulted in the arrest of 120 suspects, including six women, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security within the enclave.
The operation formed part of a broader security strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing the open sale and use of illegal drugs in both residential and commercial areas. Residents reported an increased police presence as officers conducted coordinated patrols and swoops across identified hotspots.
Following the operation, all suspects were taken to the East Legon Police Station for screening. Police explained that the process is intended to separate individuals directly linked to criminal activity from those suspected of drug possession or trafficking. Further investigations will determine the appropriate charges and possible court proceedings.
The exercise was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Saviour Ahiamadi, with support from senior officers from Police Headquarters and the Accra Regional Command, underscoring the high level of oversight involved.
Personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate, the Criminal Investigations Department, and the National Operations Directorate took part in the operation, working in collaboration with the Accra Regional Command and the East Legon Division.
The Ghana Police Service has indicated that the operation is part of a sustained campaign and not a one-off exercise, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order across the country.
