A man who drove on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway just 20 minutes before British boxer Anthony Joshua's car accident has spoken out, sharing a video to counter claims that poor road conditions contributed to the crash.
### Eyewitness Shares Observations
Orowale Kolapo, also known as Oni Foto on Facebook, revealed that he was on the same stretch of road shortly before the accident that left Joshua injured and claimed the lives of his two team members, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele. Kolapo shared a video of the road's condition, disputing claims that the poor state of the road caused the crash.
### Road Conditions Not the Cause, Says Kolapo
Addressing widespread rumors, Kolapo strongly rejected the idea that bad road conditions were a factor in the accident. He described the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as "one of the smoothest roads in Nigeria," emphasizing that there are no bumps or obstacles between Berger and Iwo Road. He suggested that the crash was the result of human error rather than a road issue.
Kolapo stated, “The road is smooth, with no bumps from Berger to Iwo Road. The claims about poor road conditions are untrue and part of a misinformation campaign.”
### Possible Cause: Driver Error
While calling the accident "unfortunate," Kolapo speculated that a miscalculation by the driver might have been responsible for the crash. He reiterated that the road itself should not be blamed for the incident.
### Tribute to the Deceased
Kolapo also expressed his condolences for the loss of Ghami and Ayodele, who died in the accident. He prayed for their souls and extended his sympathy to their families and Anthony Joshua.
### Video of the Road Conditions
In his video, Kolapo showed the smooth condition of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway just minutes before the crash. He posted the following message alongside the video:
“Anthony Joshua’s accident occurred 20 minutes after I drove on the same road. There is a misconception going around that bad road conditions caused the mishap. That is untrue. Lagos-Ibadan expressway is one of the smoothest roads in Nigeria, and you won’t find any bumps from Berger to Iwo Road. This is just an unfortunate event, and I believe it was a driver’s miscalculation. May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.”
### Anthony Joshua’s Recovery
Anthony Joshua is currently receiving medical treatment in a Lagos hospital after the accident, while the nation mourns the loss of his two close associates.
