The Ghana Education Service (GES) has commenced its nationwide teacher promotion examinations today, Monday, December 29, 2025. The examinations are scheduled to run until Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
In an official statement released via its Facebook page, the GES cautioned that only candidates with valid and officially issued index numbers will be permitted to participate in the examinations. According to the Service, all logistical and administrative arrangements have been finalised to ensure a smooth conduct of the exercise.
Candidates seeking promotion to the ranks of Assistant Director II and Principal Superintendent are writing their examinations on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Those applying for promotion to Assistant Director I and Deputy Director will sit for their papers on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, within the same time frame.
The GES explained that the shortlisting of candidates was carried out strictly in accordance with approved eligibility criteria and required documentation. As a result, some applications were not considered. All shortlisted candidates, the Service noted, have been notified through official SMS messages containing their Staff ID, index number, and designated examination centre.
The Service emphasised that participation in the examinations is strictly by index number. Candidates who did not receive an official SMS and were not issued an index number have been advised not to present themselves at any examination centre, as they will not be allowed to write the papers.
Additionally, all candidates are required to present a valid national identification card on the day of the examination and must clearly indicate their Staff ID and index number on all examination scripts.
However, the GES has provided a redress mechanism for teachers who believe they were unfairly omitted. Teachers who obtained their last promotion in or before 2021, meet the required qualifications, applied for the current promotion cycle, but neither received an SMS nor found their names on the official shortlists at the Regional or District levels, are to submit their last promotion letter and proof of application to their respective Regional Education Offices for review.
The Ghana Education Service has appealed to all candidates to strictly adhere to the stated guidelines to ensure a credible, orderly, and well-coordinated promotion exercise. It further indicated that all enquiries should be directed to officially designated phone numbers and email addresses, stressing that any further communication will be made only through official GES channels.
