Nigerian social media personality Mensah Omolola, popularly known as Aunty Esther, has passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her death was confirmed by her caregiver, Aunty Muse, in a post on X late Saturday, December 27, 2025.

Public Battle with Cancer

Aunty Esther was open about her health struggles, regularly sharing updates with Nigerians throughout her treatment journey. Her story attracted widespread sympathy, prayers, and financial support. She became particularly notable for publicly refusing a medically recommended blood transfusion due to her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness.

Faith and Medical Decisions

Doctors had advised that her blood levels needed improvement before beginning chemotherapy. She was presented with two options: a more affordable transfusion-assisted treatment and a costlier non-transfusion alternative. Aunty Esther chose the latter, adhering strictly to her religious convictions despite public debate and emotional reactions.

Reports indicated that accepting a transfusion could have resulted in disciplinary measures from her church, further influencing her decision.

Nigerians rallied to support her cause. A fundraising campaign organized by social media influencer Wisdom Obi-Dickson, known as @Wizarab10, raised approximately ₦30.7 million to aid her treatment. Throughout her illness, her caregiver, Aunty Muse, provided regular updates to keep the public informed.

Medical specialists confirmed that the non-transfusion treatment option could still be effective, though it was slower and more demanding. Aunty Esther and her family pursued this approach while exploring faith-based alternatives to improve her blood count. Despite these efforts, she ultimately passed away.
