A potentially fatal accident on the Akatsi bypass was averted on Friday evening thanks to the swift response of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). A collision involving a Hyundai Elantra and an Opel Astra (registration GT 6464-W) left four individuals trapped inside the mangled vehicles.
Fire personnel from the Akatsi Fire Station quickly deployed to the scene along the major transit route in the Volta Region. Their rescue team successfully extricated three of the trapped individuals and stabilised the wreckage to prevent further danger.
The crash occurred during a period of heavy traffic, leaving both vehicles severely damaged and briefly blocking the busy roadway. Before firefighters arrived, one severely injured victim had already been pulled from the wreckage by passersby and transported to the Akatsi Municipal Hospital.
Firefighters used specialised extrication tools to reach the remaining occupants. Their prompt and coordinated efforts resulted in the safe rescue of all three, who were later assessed by paramedics and found to be uninjured.
The GNFS team secured the accident scene to prevent additional harm and cleared the damaged vehicles to avoid secondary accidents. This quick intervention helped restore smooth traffic flow and minimise disruptions to movement and commerce in the area.
All four individuals involved in the crash were accounted for—one hospitalized and three rescued without injury—highlighting the essential role of the Ghana National Fire Service in road emergency response and public safety.
