President John Dramani Mahama has formally sworn in a new Ghana Armed Forces Council on March 24, 2025, at the Jubilee House.
In his address during the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama emphasized the importance of strong leadership and the need to maintain the military’s professionalism in the face of both internal and regional security challenges.
“This is not just a ceremonial duty; it serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard the peace, discipline, and integrity of our Armed Forces,” the President said after administering the oaths of allegiance.
He further highlighted the crucial role of the Armed Forces, stating, “Our Armed Forces are more than just a part of our security framework. They are the protectors of our sovereignty, the defenders of our democracy, and a source of pride for all Ghanaians.”
The Armed Forces Council, which was established under Article 211 of the 1992 Constitution, plays a pivotal role in advising the President on defense policy, military strategy, administration, and promotions.
The newly appointed Council is chaired by Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Other members include Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Addo, Brigadier General (Rtd) Fuseini Idrisu, and Miss Nancy Ampofo.
President Mahama expressed his deep appreciation for the outgoing members of the Council for their service and assured the new members of his government’s full support. He reiterated the government’s commitment to continued investment in military infrastructure, logistics, and the welfare of personnel, as well as strengthening regional collaborations in peacekeeping and counter-terrorism efforts.
“The strength of our Armed Forces lies not only in the bravery of those in uniform but also in the quality of leadership and the sound decisions that guide them,” the President concluded.
