Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture and current Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to evaluate a possible presidential bid within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 29, Dr. Acheampong said the decision was prompted by growing support from party members nationwide and extensive discussions with his family and close associates.
The committee’s mandate is to engage with grassroots members, party stakeholders, and constituents across the country. Its goal is to assess whether Dr. Acheampong’s leadership vision aligns with the values and priorities of the NPP and the broader Ghanaian public. The committee is expected to report its findings within four weeks.
“This committee embodies my commitment to discipline, party unity, and national priorities such as job creation, food security, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, public safety, and transparent governance,” Dr. Acheampong stated.
Reflecting on his political career, he described it as a “lifelong and deeply personal journey,” shaped by his roles as a grassroots organizer, party staffer, four-term MP, cabinet minister, and long-time financier of the NPP.
“These experiences have provided me with a deep understanding of the sacrifice, vision, and leadership needed to build and sustain a vibrant political movement,” he added.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the NPP, Dr. Acheampong expressed optimism about the party’s future and its ability to steer Ghana toward prosperity.
“To all our foot soldiers and NPP faithful, I remain confident in our collective strength to overcome challenges and lead Ghana forward. Let us stay committed, respectful, and focused on inclusive progress and effective leadership. May God guide us,” he concluded.
With this move, Dr. Acheampong becomes the latest prominent figure to signal interest in shaping the NPP’s leadership direction ahead of internal elections and the 2028 national polls.
