FABAG Pushes for Lower Food Prices, Calls for National Campaign

The Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) has announced a downward trend in the prices of key food commodities and is urging nationwide cooperation to sustain the reduction.

At a stakeholder engagement with the Minister for Finance, FABAG’s Executive Secretary, John Awuni, revealed that prices for staples such as sugar and rice have already begun to decline—sugar by about 7% and rice by roughly 10%.

“As importers, we’re taking the lead in driving prices down,” Awuni said, “but unfortunately, not everyone in the value chain is following suit.”

He called for a united national effort to ensure the reductions are passed on to consumers. “This needs to be a collective mission. We’re calling for a national campaign to lower prices across the board so ordinary Ghanaians can benefit.”

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson praised FABAG for its initiative and urged other trade bodies, including the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA), to follow suit.

“With the cedi strengthening and inflation easing, it’s time for businesses to reflect these gains in their pricing. Let’s work together to make this recovery felt by all,” Dr. Forson stated.
